Freelance isn't free act

New York City has a relatively new law called the Freelance Isn't Free Act.  The law establishes and enhances legal protections for freelance workers, specifically the right to:

•    A written contract
•    Timely and full payment
•    Protection from retaliation

The law establishes penalties for violations of these rights, including statutory damages, double damages, injunctive relief, and attorney's fees.  The law was enacted to protect freelancers working in New York City and freelancers outside New York City working with companies and individuals located in New York City.

If you have not been paid for your services within 30 days or have not been provided a written contract by the company or individual that hired you, you may be able to assert claims under the Freelance Isn't Free Act.  Our law firm has handled such claims on behalf of freelancers and have assisted freelancers in recovering the money they are owed.

Feel free to contact us at info@kgfirm.com if you are a freelancer and believe you may have a claim under this law.
